Edwin Arroyave revealed that he and his estranged wife, Teddi Mellencamp, have a prenup in his response to her divorce filing — and request for spousal support.
Days after the 43-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star filed documents to end her 13-year marriage to Edwin, 47, the former Skyline Security CEO, stated that the two of them came to a prenuptial agreement ahead of their July 2011 wedding.
“All assets, income from all sources and obligations of each party are his/her separate property,” their signed prenup agreement stated, as confirmed by court documents obtained by Page Six on November 8.
Although Teddi requested spousal support when she filed for divorce, and asked the court to block his ability to collect from her, Edwin says their prenup “sets forth the terms regarding the amount and duration of spousal support to be paid.”
In Teddi’s court documents, filed on November 1, she said “the true nature and extent of [her] separate property assets and debts are unknown at this time” and requested the court “to amend this petition when same has been ascertained.”
She then asked Edwin to be forced to cover her court fees and costs and to be awarded primary custody of their three children, including daughter Slate, 12, son Cruz, 10, and daughter Dove, 4.
Also, in Edwin’s court documents, he listed their separation date as November 1 — over a week after the October 20 separation date listed by Teddi — and requested joint custody of their children.
According to a separate report, shared on November 8 by The U.S. Sun, Teddi filed for divorce from her spouse after “being inspired” by Kyle Richards, 55, who separated from Mauricio Umansky, 54, after 27 years of marriage last year, after “years of pain.”
It was “100% Teddi’s decision to pull the trigger,” an insider stated. “It was not just one thing that led to it, she would never leave the father of her children over a single thing. It took a long time, a really long time, and a lot of pain for years for her to decide that this is what was best for her and the kids.”
While Teddi was reportedly able to “work through” certain issues, she ultimately “felt it was best for her family to forgive and move on.”
“She went on a long journey to forgive and trust again. The first year she was on [RHOBH], she was secretly fighting a lot of trauma no one except maybe Kyle knew about. But again, wanted to keep her family together so they worked through it privately,” the source continued. “Teddi really confided in Kyle and they built that sister-like trust. I think once Kyle left Mauricio and got that empowered independence, it helped Teddi see the light of being like, ‘Oh, I can make these decisions no matter my age, even if I have kids, and it will still be okay.’”
“Kyle was the catalyst for Teddi to find the power to leave a situation that no longer suited her. And Kyle has been a rock for Teddi throughout this and is helping her navigate this new life,” the insider added.
Following the split, Teddi and Edwin are “being as amicable as possible for now.”
“The fact it was a long time coming and not some shocker helped with the transition process. It sounds cliche but they really are just focused on the kids right now and making this as stress-free as possible for them,” the source said. “No one has moved out of the house yet, they’re still under one roof and figuring out a path forward.”
Teddi Mellencamp was featured on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from season eight to season 10.
