Steve Angello has pulled back the curtain on an intriguing development in the Swedish House Mafia lore: the iconic dance music trio scrapped an entire album of new material.
In an interview with Billboard, Angello revealed that the group had recorded a full album as a follow-up to 2022’s Paradise Again, their long-awaited debut album that saw them embrace a more mature, atmospheric sound. But he made it clear that their musical compass is ever-shifting: “We had an album, we scrapped it, and we put out singles.”
Angello elaborated on the decision, explaining the standard to which the trio holds themselves in the studio. Their relentless pursuit of artistic evolution is hardly surprising for a group that has redefined the electronic dance music landscape many times over.
“We are still always working on music, and when we feel like [what we have] is good enough, we will put it out,” he said. “As a creator, if you’re not feeling something, it’s not going to see daylight.”
The revelation arrives as Angello continues to expand on his solo catalog while assuring fans that plenty of fresh SHM music is on the horizon. Shifting plans, in place of a full record, the trio has since opted to release two standalone tracks: the long-awaited “Lioness” and a captivating rework of Kings of Tomorrow’s house classic “Finally” with Alicia Keys.
