With the theatrical release of Wicked looming closer, a new video for the film adaptation has been released, which teases Ariana Grande’s very own rendition of “Popular.”
Wicked will be the first part of Jon M. Chu’s movie adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman. Of course, as a popular Broadway musical with equally popular songs, expectations for Cynthia Erivo and Grande’s versions of the songs are quite high — and they have so far proven to be the best picks for the part.
One of Wicked’s songs, “Popular,” was originally performed by Kristin Chenoweth. The song follows good-witch-to-be Glinda giving her roommate Elphaba a makeover.

When is Wicked coming out?
Wicked is slated to hit theaters on November 22, 2024, with the second part — Wicked Part Two — scheduled for a 2025 theatrical release. An untold story of the witches of Oz, Wicked will center on “Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power.” The upcoming movie will revolve around her unlikely friendship with “Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.”
In addition to Grande and Erivo, Wicked features a star-studded cast of Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman.
It also stars Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Bowen Yang as Pfannee of Phan Hall, Bronwyn James as ShenShen, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Andy Nyman as Frexspar Thropp, and Courtney-Mae Briggs as Melena Thropp, among others.
Glinda and Elphaba will defy gravity on November 22.
