Since defeating his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, in the 2024 presidential election, videos have resurfaced of Donald Trump announcing his 10 “key ideas” for what he believes will strengthen America’s education system, plus more.
Part of this agenda includes proposals to bring back prayer into the public school system and Trump’s previously teased plans to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education. Even before his election win was confirmed on November 6, former President Donald Trump promised that “very early” in his second administration he would be “closing up” the federal Education Department headquartered in Washington, D.C.

He said he would send “all education and education work and needs back to the States” — a similar move he’s made with women’s rights, specifically the right to abortion. Trump has said, “We want them to run the education of our children because they’ll do a much better job of it.” He added, “You can’t do worse. We spend more money per pupil by three times than any other nation, and yet we’re absolutely at the bottom.”
In a second video address to the nation, Donald Trump vowed to sic the Department of Justice (DOJ) on colleges and universities and have them pursue federal civil rights cases for maintaining any Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion (DEI) programs.

Trump specifically said he would have the law enforcement agency “pursue federal civil rights cases against schools that continue to engage in racial discrimination and schools that persist in explicit unlawful discrimination under the guise of equity.”
He also said he would assess fines and tax the endowments of schools pursuing any racial equity work. Additionally, he proposed that a “portion of the seized funds will then be used as restitution for victims of these illegal and unjust policies, policies that hurt our country so badly.”
