Whoopi Goldberg Faces Calls To Apologize To NYC Bakery

Actress Whoopi Goldberg is facing severe backlash for her remarks about an NYC bakery refusing to serve her because of her “politics.”

The NYC bakery refuted Goldberg’s allegations, claiming they had issues with their “boiler” when the comedienne made her orders.

The incident, which Whoopi Goldberg talked about on her show, “The View,” has now gained widespread attention, with New York politicians demanding she apologize.

On Friday, Staten Island leaders came out to show support for the famous eatery Holtermann’s Bakery, which Goldberg accused of denying her service due to “Politics.”

During the Wednesday episode of “The View,” Goldberg, who was celebrating her birthday, made the shocking revelation that left her co-hosts stunned.

However, the actress has now been asked to apologize to the bakery for allegedly lying about the reason why they could not take her orders.

“Recently someone took to the national airwaves and defamed, frankly, this family business,” borough president Vito Fossella said of the incident during a news conference held outside the 145-year-old bakery.

“We’re here to stand up for one of the best families and businesses, not just in Staten Island but in the country,” Fossella continued. “Frankly, the people who defamed the Holtermann family should apologize … for making stuff up to suit their needs. Not everybody wakes up every day and thinks about politics.”

At the news conference, another Staten Island leader slammed Goldberg, claiming that the actress felt she was “too important” for a “boiler breakdown.”

“[We are here] to send a message to the person who decided that she was too important for a boiler breakdown. That she had to have her pastries, and if it wasn’t coming to her, it must have been someone else’s fault; it must have been a direct insult to her,” Staten Island Councilman David Carr noted.

He continued, “That would never be the case. Staten Islanders don’t serve people based on their political opinions. They serve everyone who comes through their door. And that is the case of the Holtermann family.”

Goldberg’s comments have led to the NYC bakery receiving a huge amount of support, with the owner, Jill Holtermann, noting that she’s been receiving calls from individuals around the country.

“I really am overwhelmed,” Holtermann told the New York Post. “I’m so happy to have the support. Just to have people come out and talk and build up my business.”

“We had one today that’s donating $150 worth of donuts,” she said about the support the bakery has been getting, adding that the pastries would be given to St. Peter’s Boys’ High School for a football game.

“Somebody else called up and donated a sheet cake — it went to a firehouse. The other one was cupcakes, they went to PS 37,” Holtermann added.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg made the shocking claim about the Holtermann’s Bakery, which she didn’t name on the show.

She talked about the incident with the bakery while expressing happiness about her birthday with co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Joy Behar, and Sara Haines.

The ladies could be seen digging into some Charlotte Russe desserts, which Goldberg said was her mom’s favorite growing up.

“Now, I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me,” Goldberg said on the show, drawing strong reactions from the audience and co-hosts.

She continued, “They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them.”

The “Ghost” actress then added that her order wasn’t taken not because she’s a woman but rather because “they did not like my politics.”

“But that’s okay because you know what? Listen, this is my mother’s celebration. Pick these up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you, everyone, for celebrating my birthday today,” she stated, per the New York Post.

The actress shared a video on Instagram, seemingly defending herself amid the backlash due to her comments about the NYC bakery.

“There seems to be a lot of talk about the dessert I requested for my birthday show,” Goldberg said in a video posted on her page.

“It does seem a little odd that when we called a few weeks before my birthday and, we were told they couldn’t process the order for my birthday because of an equipment failure,” she noted in another video. “But somehow, they were able to accept an order of a different 48 of the same dessert when somebody else called without using my name.”

Despite the strange incident, Goldberg said, “It’s all okay, y’all, because I enjoyed my delicious dessert, and I had a happy, sweet birthday.”
