Is there a better way to ring in the new year than an open-air techno and house party? Not if you ask the organizers of Fresh Start, who are once again living up to their name in 2024.
In a ritual as reliable as fog rolling over the Bay, Fresh Start is once again poised to transform The Midway into San Francisco’s ground zero for New Year’s partying. Filling the corner of Michigan and Marin Streets, the annual block party is less a rave and more an ecosystem of celebration, where each room pulses with its own artistic heartbeat.
Scheduled for December 31st to January 1st, this year’s event features a massive lineup topped by Chris Lake, ZHU, Charlotte de Witte, Cloonee, Noizu and Austin Millz, among others. More can’t-miss performances on tap include The Blessed Madonna, Azzecca, Mary Droppinz and an all-vinyl set by DJ Pee .Wee (the alias of Anderson .Paak).

The event’s appeal, however, goes far beyond its lineup. Its organizers are planning a slew of experiential activations, like intricate art installations, food trucks and a culinary menu curated by The Midway’s Executive Chef.
Decked out in Fresh Start’s new Y2K branding, the venue is also set to undergo “a complete transformation” this year as it introduces a new stage, 888 Garage, across the street. The 1,000-capacity warehouse, which recently hosted three sold-out Portola Festival afterparties, has emerged as one of the Bay Area’s most buzzworthy venues.
