Pharrell Williams being yelled at during a GQ Party has sparked curiosity among fans and the public alike. The incident, involving animal rights activists, unfolded as the Happy singer exited the GQ event. Many are eager to learn why did it happen.
So, did Pharrell Williams do something to offend animal rights activists? Here is everything you need to know about the same.
Here’s why Pharrell Williams got yelled at during a GQ Party
Pharrell Williams was yelled at by animal rights activists while exiting GQ’s annual Man of the Year party for wearing a leather jacket. The activists confronted Pharrell Williams, criticizing his fashion choices and role as Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director.
“Shame on you, you animal murderer,” yelled one activist. “You are a loser, what type of person still uses fur,” they added. Williams surprisingly remained calm, and told the activist, who was wearing a “Defend Animals” hat, “god bless you.” He then proceeded to hug him only to be angrily rejected and pushed away. The activist then showed Williams a poster, signifying cruelty towards animals.
As Williams walked away and towards his car, being protected by guards, other activists angrily mocked him and shouted calling him a “loser.” However, Williams simply chose to ignore them. One of the activists was not deterred and went in front of the car to continue criticizing Williams. His’ driver waited for a few seconds before exiting the area.
Nevertheless, this was not the first time Pharrell Williams faced heat from animal rights activists. He was previously confronted by PETA supporters at the London premiere of his biopic movie Piece By Piece. Here, the protesters, who had been standing on a balcony in the auditorium, unveiled a banner that said: “Pharrell: Stop Supporting Killing Animals for Fashion.”
He was also confronted in September during the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF). Here, a protestor had entered the stage to beg him to stop killing animals while holding a banner conveying that message. Williams reacted calmly to this and told the protestor, who eventually exited the stage, “god bless you,” while also acknowledging that she was right. He further told the crowd to give the protestor a round of applause.
