Matthew McConaughey Is A ‘Tuna Fish Salad Master Maker’
During the podcast, McConaughey’s tuna fish salad recipe entered the chat.
“I’m a tuna fish salad master maker. Every Sunday night, clean out the fridge, gonna make a bada– of tuna fish,” he told the interested podcast hosts. When asked about the recipe, the actor said, “It’s a long list of all kinds of things.”
He explained that it starts with the base, “good tuna.”
“Next, you gotta watch how much lemon and vinegar you add, cause if you add mayo, mixed with wasabi, and Italian dressing,” he said before being interrupted with excitement over using wasabi in the recipe.

“And then all the rest of the stuff, from the chopped red onions or the dill pickle gherkin, I’ll finely dice the dill pickle gherkins. Crispy jalapeno chips, give it a little crunch. At the end, to balance it out, I’ll go with some apple for some sweetness, a touch of agave, I’ll always have corn in there. And then at the end, I’ll go, some frozen green peas.”
He then explained that it’s better to make it, cover it, put it in the fridge, and enjoy it the next day.

TikTokers Tried Out Matthew McConaughey’s Recipe And Shared Their Videos
A quick search of “Matthew McConaughey’s Tuna” in the TikTok search bar pops up many videos of viewers trying out his recipe.
Content creator @dommelier tried out his recipe and shared the process with the original podcast as the voiceover. At the end of the video, he tries it out and appears to like it.
One person pointed out a mistake that perhaps the content creator made, saying, “Jalapeño chips = sliced jalapeños…. not actual potato chips.” Another viewer added, “I think you’re supposed to heat the peas.” Another person shared, “Chips don’t go in the mix, it goes on the bread after the spread.”

One other viewer touched on the jalapeno confusion saying, “I assumed by ‘crispy jalapeno chips’ he either meant fried jalapeno slices that are crispy or you use the jalapeno potato chips to scoop the tuna salad. Putting them in there is WILD,” to which the content creator responded, “Instructions unclear. Now I have soggy chips in my tuna salad.”
Podcast Host Bert Kreischer Also Made Matthew McConaughey’s Recipe
Bert Kreischer, who brought an extreme level of excitement over McConaughey’s tuna salad recipe on the podcast, said he was thinking about the recipe “every day since he told it to me.”
“I’m not even that hungry, but I just went out and bought some premium wasabi to try it out,” he said. “Here we go.”
The video then ends, but an update video shared gives viewers more of the story.
“It is a no brainer. I will say I used an entire tube of wasabi, but f—, I can’t believe I’m 52 and I’m just learning this,” he said. “I’m eating a whole thing of tuna fish because of the wasabi. Got little gherkin pickles.”
He also shared that he forgot to add the corn.

‘Alright, Alright’
Another content creator, @cibsandibus, also tried out the recipe and shared his thoughts.
After taking a bite of his tuna salad sandwich using McConaughey’s recipe, he confidently said, “Alright, alright.”
“Being a foodie and hearing all these ingredients, I had to try this sandwich,” he said. He then showed how he made the recipe. After making it exactly as the actor explained, he explained that there was “no mention of salt or pepper” but he will decide if it’s needed after tasting.
“As I’m mixing, I instinctively want to add more mayo, but I’ve seen Matthew McConaughey with his shirt off, so I doubt his recipe is 50 percent mayo, 50 percent everything else,” he said. “Let’s add some cracked black pepper. And there’s the finished product.”
He then built a sandwich out of the mixture and some “lightly toasted rustic bread.” His final review, “There’s some really nice flavors working together in there. So here’s the deal, there’s a lot of ingredients in here, but they all work well together very well.”
