Wondering about the latest update on Golden State Warriors guard De’Anthony Melton after his recent injury? Fans are eager for updates after Melton sustained a left ACL sprain during the game against the Mavericks on November 12, 2024. His absence is a major loss for the Warriors’ backcourt, raising questions about how the team will adjust and when he might return.

So, how did De’Anthony Melton get injured? Here’s what happened, his recovery status, and what Warriors fans should expect moving forward.

How did De’Anthony Melton get injured?

De’Anthony Melton sustained a left ACL sprain during the Golden State Warriors’ 120–117 win over the Dallas Mavericks on November 12, 2024. The injury occurred during an intense play in the game where Melton contributed 14 points, including a clutch steal against Luka Doncic. Postgame evaluations revealed the extent of his injury, sidelining him indefinitely.

Further testing confirmed that Melton required season-ending surgery, announced by the Warriors on November 20, 2024. The team stated that surgery was in Melton’s “best interest,” effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the season. This marks another significant injury for the guard, following a back issue that limited his availability last season.

When will De’Anthony Melton return to play with the Golden State Warriors in the NBA?

De’Anthony Melton is expected to miss the entire 2024-25 NBA season due to his ACL surgery and subsequent recovery process. The Warriors have not provided an exact timeline for Melton’s return. However, ACL surgery recovery typically takes 9 to 12 months, making a 2025-26 season return likely.

Melton’s injury has left a significant void in the Warriors’ lineup. Head coach Steve Kerr lamented the loss, saying, “I feel awful for him and bad for us too.” (via The Playoffs) He further highlighted Melton’s fit as a starter alongside Stephen Curry. With Melton out, the Warriors are adjusting their lineup. They are relying on depth players such as Lindy Waters III and Gary Payton II to fill the gap.

Melton’s injury is a considerable setback for both him and the Golden State Warriors, impacting their backcourt stability and rotation. His contributions as a 3-and-D guard were pivotal in the Warriors’ early-season success. His absence presents challenges, but the Warriors’ depth and versatility can help mitigate the impact. This flexibility should keep the team competitive as they adapt.
