Peacock is wasting no time: The Day of the Jackal has been renewed for a second season just eight days after its debut.
The assassin thriller stars Eddie Redmayne as the Jackal, a globe-trotting hitman who takes on high-stakes missions while skillfully evading capture. Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die) plays Bianca, a relentless British intelligence officer on a mission to bring the Jackal down. As she tracks him across Europe, their cat-and-mouse pursuit leaves chaos in its wake, according to the show’s official synopsis. The cast also features Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as Nuria, the Jackal’s wife, alongside Charles Dance and Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Khalid Abdalla (The Crown). The series, based on Frederick Forsyth’s classic novel, was adapted by Top Boy’s Ronan Bennett, who also serves as executive producer.
The first five episodes of The Day of the Jackal premiered last Thursday on Peacock, with Episode 6 set to drop this week. The series has already earned widespread acclaim, and has landed in Peacock’s Top 5 streaming originals for its opening weekend. It’s also proving to be an international success, performing strongly in markets like the UK, Australia, and Ireland, thanks to its co-production with Sky.
