Here’s a fun trailer for the action-packed horror-comedy Midgies, which is about Scotland’s most infamous tiny terror… “elevated to a whole new level of fear.”
The description reads: “Japan has Godzilla, America has King Kong, but Scotland’s real monsters are far smaller and much more relentless. Move over Loch Ness—MIDGIES are the real threat.”
The movie is inspired by iconic titles like Jaws, The Host, Predator, and Shaun of the Dead. The creative team aims “for audiences to connect with our characters in a story where humour enhances the tension without undermining the stakes. Our teaser trailer offers a glimpse of what we have in store with the feature.”
In case you were wondering, midgies, “are tiny, blood-sucking insects also known as ‘No-see-ums,’ ‘punkies,’ and ‘biting midges.’
“While they can be found worldwide, the Scottish Highland biting midge is particularly notorious. These relentless creatures hunt using CO2 exhaled by humans and animals, swarming their targets and delivering countless itchy bites that make the Scottish outdoors a real challenge during the summer months.”
It’s explained that the Midgies film “started from a tweet idea by writer Barry Hutchison, which went viral across national press in 2023.
“With the feature film aiming to shoot as soon as next year, director Alessio Avezzano came on board with indie studio Mythic Picnic to bring this vision to life. We’ve created this teaser to drum up more excitement and showcase what’s to come.”
