Grammy-nominated singer Khalid found himself at the center of controversy recently when artist Hugo Almonte publicly shared details about their past relationship, effectively outing the R&B star.

In a series of social media posts, Almonte alleged that Khalid had offered him drugs and tried to frame him for a break-in at his house. He also criticized the behavior of “gay artists that are out right now,” labeling them “s**tty as f**k,” before sharing a photo of himself with Khalid.
Rather than engage in the drama or directly address Almonte’s accusations, Khalid responded with grace. The singer took to social media, first posting a simple “ð³ï¸ð!!! there yall go. next topic please lol” alongside the LGBTQ+ pride flag.
Later, when a fan commented that the “closet was glass,” suggesting his sexuality had been an open secret, Khalid replied, “I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business.”
“I got outted and the world still continues to turn,” Khalid continued. “Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me ð¤.”
Khalid made it clear that he’s fine with the world knowing he’s gay, but also pointed out that it’s a personal thing—not something he was trying to hide or make a big announcement about.

Almonte later clarified his intentions in a statement to Rolling Stone, claiming he chose to speak out because Khalid had used his power to silence him after the relationship ended. While Almonte refrained from directly naming Khalid in his statement, his earlier posts and the shared photo left little room for question.
Almonte also alleged that he has faced death threats following the incident, insisting, “It’s crazy that these people said I was chasing clout, when I was holding onto this for five years, and I finally had enough.”

Despite Almonte’s claims, Khalid’s fans and supporters came to the singer’s defense. Many criticized Almonte’s actions as opportunistic and unnecessary. One user summed up the sentiments of many, writing, “Your music can barely allow you to afford a small fry at Jack in the Box and you’re pressed about outing someone who has three diamond records. Y’all are not the same, babes.”
The 26-year-old Grammy-nominated singer dropped his third studio album, *Sincere*, in August.
