There have been a lot of rumors and speculation regarding the future of Tom Hardy’s Venom showing up in Spider-Man 4. While Hardy has said that Venom: The Last Dance would be his last time playing Venom, a press release was recently shared by Sony’s Japan division offering some updates on the film’s release.
But, it also teases the potential involvement of Hardy’s Venom. The translated press release features comments from Holland about the story and also mentions Hardy’s previous statements regarding Venom’s future.
It quotes Holland as saying: “This will be a real movie that fans can respect.” It then poses the question: “Is Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie in the ‘Venom’ series, ready to take part?”
As you might imagine, this statement has reignited discussions about Venom appearing in Spider-Man 4.
The release also includes past comments made by Hardy about Venom’s future, in which he said: “Venom’s story is not over yet. He still has a lot to do.”
Hardy also talked about working with Holland, saying: “Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man. I would like to work with him. If someone needs me, I’d be happy to participate.”
This is an interesting press release and it just feels like a big tease for something that might not actually happen.
in a separate interview, Hardy said of Spider-Man 4: “I don’t see him in the next Spider-Man movie because I’d have the script, and I don’t have that.” So, that indicates there is no official confirmation of his involvement.
Destin Daniel Cretton is directing Spider-Man 4 and Holland previously revealed that he and Zendaya read a draft of the script and he expressed his excitement about the direction that the film will take the story.
Holland said: “We have a creative and a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work but the writers are doing a great job. I read it 3 weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me.
“Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of fans respect.”
Spider-Man 4 is scheduled for a 2026 summer release in Japan, with a U.S. release date set for July 24, 2026.
