Listening to Ferry Corsten’s new album, Connect, feels like stepping into a time machine.

Each track from the influential DJ and producer’s sixth studio album is a postcard from his career, charting his evolution from trance purist to genre-agnostic innovator. Corsten paints Connect as a career retrospective, reimagining his signature sound through brushstrokes that represent his evolution as a music producer.

“While I may be best known for trance, I’ve explored a range of genres over the years—house, progressive, even techno. This album is a culmination of those styles, woven together across tracks in dynamic layers and moments,” Corsten explained in a press release. “If you’ve followed my music, I hope you’ll recognize these influences and hear the depth and variety within this sound.”

Out now under Corsten’s Flashover Recordings banner via Armada Music, the album comprises 15 tracks. Those include collaborations with Marsh, 22Bullets and Silva City, the collaborative alias of Alan Fitzpatrick and Reset Robot, among others.

Corsten manages to transform nostalgic impulses into forward-looking music that pulses with contemporary energy throughout Connect. Look no further than “Wish,” a masterclass in controlled reinvention where he crafts a dancefloor elegy through lyrics that pull you into the glow of a memory you can’t quite touch—but can’t let go of either.

Another undeniable highlight is “Total Eclipse,” where Corsten weaves a cocoon of vintage breakbeats that unfurls as a miniature universe unto itself. Here, Chris Howard’s tortured vocals are a lunar waltz between despair and distant hope: “I check my phone again / Nothing’s making sense / I wonder where it ends / A total eclipse,” he croons.
