During a recent sit-down on Kai Cenat’s Mafiathon 2 stream, Kyrie Irving got asked about whether he still believes the Earth is flat.
The Dallas Mavericks baller, known for diving deep into some conspiracy theories over the years, joined Cenat’s stream on Thursday, Nov. 28. That’s when Cenat’s homie and fellow Twitch streamer Ray threw the question at him about whether he’s still standing with the same beliefs about the planet as he did back in 2017. “Do I still think the Earth is flat?” he said. “By the way, I got in so much trouble for that. Y’all be careful with that, man, because a lot of people believe the Earth is flat or believe it’s round.”

Kyrie Irving then added that he believes he got in trouble because of his influence and how kids look up to him. “But the thing about it is it’s been said in history before, right? People have said that the Earth is flat. But at the end of the day, it’s not about whether it’s flat, it’s questioning what is going around you. … I was labeled as a conspiracy theorist.”
Back in 2017, Irving threw out the idea that he thought the Earth was flat, straight-up brushing off the science that proves we’re living on a globe. He even told fans to “do their own research” and hinted he might’ve been just playing around. But when 2018 rolled around, and folks pressed him about it, they hit him with a direct question. “I don’t know,” he said, per Newsweek. “It’s fun to think about though.”

While he was with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets, Irving caught a lot of heat for backing some pretty out-there conspiracy theories. One of the biggest moments came in 2021 when he showed love for the Black Hebrew Israelite doctrine by dropping a link to a documentary that many slammed as antisemitic. On top of that, he made headlines for opting out of getting the COVID-19 vaccine, which kept him sidelined for a stretch during the Nets’ home games.
