Many are interested in how Moana 2 concludes for the demigod Maui— does he die or get a happy ending? The latest installment witnesses Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors. She embarks on a thrilling adventure with her crew to find the lost island of Motufetu, confronting several enemies. However, in the end, Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and Moana’s face-off with Nalo turns out brutal for both.

So, does Maui meet a terrible fate, or is he alive at the end of Moana 2? Here are the details.

Does Maui die in Moana 2?

No, Maui doesn’t die in Moana 2.

The much-awaited sequel’s ending witnesses an expected twist, putting the beloved demigod and Moana’s lives at risk. During the crew’s journey to save the lost island, they hatch an intriguing plan. The idea is that while Maui brings the island out of the water, other crew members will try to distract malevolent Nalo through their unpredictable moves.

Though the crew’s plan works for a brief period, Nalo soon begins to cause trouble for them. He strikes lightning into the ocean, stripping Maui’s power, who is still trying to raise the island from the water. Affected by Nalo’s moves, he falls into the water and their plans go all awry.

Nevertheless, Moana takes the risk and is determined to restore the island. She believes that if she dives into the water and touches the island’s shore, it will break Nalo’s curse and the island will be restored. Though Moana succeeds in her plans, tragedy strikes her too.

An observant Nalo shoots the lightning strikes on Moana, leading to her ultimate demise. However, he is soon defeated when the lost island awakens. Eventually, Maui is noticed to be floating in the water and is rescued by Loto, Kele, and Moni. As soon as he wakes up, he gets concerned about Moana and swims into the water, only to find her lifeless body.

Saddened by Moana’s death, Maui sings to call her ancestors. Through the spirits of her ancestors, she is awakened, gets glowing tattoos, and receives demigod status. Meanwhile, Maui’s tattoos are also restored and they all celebrate their victory over Nalo together.
