Star Wars: Skeleton Crew debuted on Disney+ on December 2, 2024, and has quickly become a favorite among critics, earning commendable scores on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. The plot revolves around a group of children lost somewhere in the galaxy. As they desperately try to find their way back home, they encounter a mysterious Force-sensitive individual.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew reviews promise a ‘fun adventure story’

ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim reviewed the first three episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and gave the show a 7 out of 10 rating. He noted in his review, “The first three episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew promise a fun, low-stakes adventure into the galaxy we know and love.”

Molly Edwards of Total Film mentioned in his review that the show “perfectly captures the vibes of classic Star Wars – even the opening scene is a homage to Darth Vader’s iconic entrance in A New Hope, while Wim racing to catch up to a missed school bus echoes the speeder bike chase in Return of the Jedi – but with a swashbuckling twist.”

According to John Nugent of Empire Magazine, Skeleton Crew “is a perfectly fun entry in the ever-expanding Star Wars canon: light and frothy by design, driven by a genuinely sweet cast of younglings at the fore.”

Meanwhile, Rolling Stone’s Alan Sepinwall described the show as “a solidly-crafted piece of all-ages entertainment, with good direction from Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and David Lowery (The Green Knight), and some fun set pieces.”

San Francisco Chronicle’s Zaki Hasan observed that Skeleton Crew balanced “the thrill of the new and the comfort of the familiar.” Hasan elaborated, “It’s a love letter to the kind of ‘kid gang’ movies of the ’80s that Watts & Co. clearly grew up on. More importantly, it’s a love letter to our collective memories of being kids who loved Star Wars…”

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has accumulated a 94% approval rating on the review aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 43 reviews. On Metacritic, which utilizes a weighted average to rate a project, it currently has a score of 72 out of 100 after 16 reviews, denoting a “generally favorable” response. While these are excellent numbers, the show’s overall success ultimately depends upon how the general viewers respond to it.
