Police in Missouri took a couple into custody after they attempted to circumcise their child at home. According to KY3, Bailey Gibson and Tyler Gibson now face child abuse charges for carrying out the procedure without authorization.

Details On Missouri Couple Alleged Unauthorized Surgery On Their Child
The New York Post reports that Tyler Wade Gibson allegedly attempted the shocking surgery on Nov. 27, using a sharpened utility blade and setting down pads for the process. Despite having no medical training, Tyler Gibson claimed he did some research beforehand and he even prayed before attempting to conduct the procedure.
Court documents reveal that Tyler Gibson didn’t expect heavy bleeding to be a result. Investigators also said Bailey Gibson, the mother, confessed she felt “hesitant and unsure” about going through with the surgery.
Furthermore, Tyler told authorities about the “utility tool” he used and mentioned where they could find it in his house. However, when police searched the home, they couldn’t locate the blade, according to the complaint.
Per PEOPLE, the complaint also reveals that on Nov. 28, someone at Columbia University Hospital contacted an emergency hotline to report the incident, describing the child as having undergone the procedure at the Morgan County home. The report also mentions that the procedure went wrong, leading the child to be transported from Lake Regional Hospital to Columbia University Hospital for treatment and hospitalization under a urologist’s care. KRCG13 adds that Tyler Gibson chose to eventually leave the hospital against medical advice, allegedly complaining about the wait.
