Mary Cosby Breaks Silence On Son’s One Month Rehab Stint

Mary Cosby is proud of how far her son, Robert Jr., has come in his battle against substance abuse.

The Bravo star shared a major update on her son’s well-being after his exit from rehab. The confession comes as she got very candid with Cohen about substance abuse on this week’s episode of the show.

“He did go to rehab. He stayed for a month,” Cosby tells Cohen on the show. “He completed it. He did an excellent job. He came out a new person.”

Per PEOPLE, she confirmed that her son’s wife, Alexiana Cosby, also went to rehab, noting that she’s “still in there.” The proud mom continued and declared that her son “is doing so good. I am so proud of him. So proud of him.”

In this week’s episode, Cosby and Robert Jr. had a touching conversation after the reality TV star suspected something was wrong with her son. The cameras caught Robert Jr. admitting to his mom about using multiple hard substances.

“Robert was like the perfect child. He was very good in school. He got straight A’s all the way up until he graduated. When he set his mind to do something, he did it,” she said in her confessional.

“He was like our prize, very smart, very advanced. That’s the Robert I know, and that’s the Robert I’m trying to reach,” Cosby noted as she explained why she reached out to him.

Robert Jr. confessed to an already emotional Cosby that he was on Xanax and Adderall during their conversation, prompting his mother to ask if he was happy.

“Sometimes, I feel like, I don’t know, just life is like this chicken without seasoning,” he explained. “But when I get high, it’s like seasoning.”

The 21-year-old went on to share that he first took Xanax at 16 and multiple substances since then, adding that he felt suicidal.

“You have to know I love you more than anything,” Cosby said through tears. “More than anything in this world. I think I love you more than Dad, like, don’t ever tell Dad I said that, but you’re my friend, you’re my son, you’re my gift.” The Bravo star noted:

“God gave you to me. You’re the only thing that ever made me happy. Before I had you, I was never happy. You came and you were so real. It was everything I hoped for in a person.”

Robert Jr. concluded the discussion by wiping off tears and declaring: “I just barely started being happy again.”

Despite their close bond, as seen on the show, Cosby once admitted that her son is not a fan of the reality series or her cast mates. The Blast reported in 2021 that the star also admitted that she does not know where her role on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” will take her.

“I tell the world to pray for my son. He doesn’t even watch the show. He thinks [Jen Shah] ‘s mean to me. He thinks I can’t handle it. He tells his friends, ‘Don’t want the show. They’re mean to my mom,'” Cosby explained.

The screen goddess added that Robert Jr. is “protective” of her and hates seeing her mistreated. She declared, “He’s protective of me andhe doesn’t think it’s fair. So he doesn’t even watch it. We don’t even have conversations about it.”

The 52-year-old shockingly married her step-grandfather Robert Cosby Sr. twenty years ago and has a son for him. The Blast shared that she married Robert Sr. because it was in her grandmother’s will that she could only inherit her estate if she married the senior Cosby.

The news of their marriage drew criticism from every corner, especially on social media, but the reality star insisted it was her story and that was who she was.

When Cosby began filming “RHSOLC” in 2020, she looked forward to sharing her unique story despite how strange it looked. Unfortunately for the star, things did not go as planned. Cosby felt like the producers chose the story for her.

The mother-of-one claimed that the story of her marriage was not set in a good light, hence attracting unfair rumors about their romance.
