EXCLUSIVE: Matt Nix (Burn Notice, The Gifted) is developing the new drama series Vacationland at NBC alongside Tess Gerritsen (Rizzoli & Isles) and Dan Rosen (The Last Supper, Dead Man’s Curve).
From Universal Television, the series follows top LAPD detective Grace Chen after she resigns from her job in disgust. She retires to the quirky village of Serenity, Maine, determined to put it all behind her. When Serenity’s Sheriff is murdered, however, Grace finds herself dragged back into crime fighting by Joey, a local veterinarian and amateur sleuth determined to protect the town she loves.
Between Grace’s big-city detective skills and Joey’s understanding of Maine, they turn out to be a surprisingly effective team … and a very unlikely pair of friends.
Nix is perhaps best known as the creator of the USA Network’s long-running series Burn Notice starring Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell, Sharon Gless and Coby Bell. The Miami-based action drama series ran for 7 seasons from 2007 to 2013. He followed that up with the Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks-led Fox series The Good Guys; the Stephen Moyer-starrer The Gifted, also for Fox; and most recently, the buddy cop action comedy Turner & Hooch for Disney+.
Gerritsen is a New York Times bestselling author behind the Rizzoli & Isles book series which inspired the TNT series of the same name starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. The Maine resident was a practicing physician when she began writing novels and to date, has written more than 30 romance and medical thrillers. She is also a composer and documentarian.
Rosen is a screenwriter and director whose credits include Freeloaders, The Last Supper and the TV series, The First Family.
