Apple TV Viewing Jumped 36% In December To New Record, Says Streamer

After successfully reassembling the movie star cast of Euphoria, HBO got more good news about the much-delayed third season of the popular drama series in the form of a tax credit.

The list of the latest California tax incentives recipients, revealed this morning, included an HBO “recurring TV series” titled LA Nights, which received a $19.4M credit. As Deadline hinted in our story, LA Nights is a code name for Euphoria.

The coming-of-age drama has always filmed in and around Los Angeles. While Seasons 1 and 2 used soundstages on the Sony lot, we hear Season 3 will be shot on the Warner Bros. lot, keeping things within the Warner Bros. Discovery family. (HBO is also owned by WBD.)

We also hear the Euphoria S3 production is eligible for an extra 5% credit for filming outside the Hollywood zone, which is any location outside the 30-mile radius centered at LA’s La Cienega and Beverly Blvd.

Production is slated to begin in January; Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, revealed in July that Season 3 will be full-size, consisting of eight episodes.

That is expected to be the final installment for Sam Levinson’s series whose cast has blown up and have big feature careers, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and recurring player Colman Domingo, who are all returning for Season 3.

“We are shooting the season, I have read the scripts, we’re happy, we’re moving ahead,” Bloys said last month about the new season, which features a time jump, taking the characters out of high school. (Originally slated for production this year, filming on S3 was pushed back to January 2024 as Levinson was still working on scripts, with the cast allowed to take other jobs.)

“I look forward to getting back together with our cast,” Domingo recently told Deadline. “I know Sam has some terrific plans in place, and I’m just looking forward to us getting back to work very, very soon.”

Since the launch of its second season in January 2022, Euphoria has been impacted by the 2023 WGA strike as well as the unexpected deaths of star Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen.

Levinson executive produces with Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Zendaya, Will Greenfield, Ashley Levinson, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Gary Lennon, Mirit Toovi, Tmira Yardeni, Yoram Mokady. The series is produced in partnership with A24.
