Two important events have happened in the MCU to pave the way for the X-Men to jump into frame. First off, we saw the arrival of the first mutant in our current timeline in the cameo from Beast in The Marvels’ post-credits scene.
Then we got an X-Men headliner with Deadpool & Wolverine, where we met a Logan Variant from a world where the X-Men had been killed. When we meet Logan in the movie, he is wearing a regular outfit with coat and pants.
Then we get to see him in the classic yellow comic book superhero garb, and he even dons the mask that is synonymous with the character during the final fight scene.
So could we see more of these characters return to suit up in their classic styles? Many fans are assuming so with the multiverse torn open and two event films on the horizon.
One actor who is known for playing an X-Men of the past is James Marsden, who played Cyclops/Scott Summers in three films. He was asked about the character’s possible Marvel future by Jake’s Takes while catching up on his most recent pic, Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
When asked for his thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine and whether he’d be open to wearing Cyclops’s classic blue and yellow suit, he said:
“[Laughs] Well, first, I loved that movie. I thought they nailed it and seeing Ryan and Hugh together was a real treat. Seeing Hugh in the full-on comic book costume was super cool as well.
“I’m not sure that Scott begged him to wear the costume…I think in the first movie I say something like, ‘What would you prefer, yellow spandex?’ or something like that. It was a little sensationalizing on Wolverine’s part there.”
While Marsden seems to have mistaken Deadpool & Wolverine’s Wolverine Variant with the one from his X-Men movies, the actor didn’t dismiss the notion of joining the MCU and responded positively to the idea of wearing that costume.
“It’s so cool to see these characters up on screen again. I know there’s a lot of chatter out there. I don’t really know anything but it was a great thing to be part of and obviously, always a fun thing to don that suit. We’ll see.”
We will see. There are so many possibilities for the upcoming Avengers films, and some of the characters and storylines will be expected, and many will be surprises. Though it is fair to say that everyone will be pretty shocked if the mutants don’t show up in a big way.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in May 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive in May 2027.
