This Is Us alum Milo Ventimiglia has signed on to join the cast of the I Can Only Imagine 2 movie, which serves as the sequel to the 2018 biographical drama of the same name. The Emmy nominee is set to portray the role of singer/songwriter Tim Timmons.

Who is involved in I Can Only Imagine 2?

I Can Only Imagine 2 is directed by Brent McCorkle and Andrew Erwin from a screenplay written by McCorkle. Ventimiglia will join returning cast members John Michael Finley as Bart Millard, Dennis Quaid as Arthur, Trace Adkins as MercyMe’s manager Scott Brickell. The sequel is produced by Millard, Erwin, Kevin Downes, Cindy Bond, Daryl Lefever, and Joshua Walsh. It is a production by Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company.

“I Can Only Imagine captured the hearts of audiences when it was released, and continues to provide hope and encouragement to millions around the globe,” Downes said in a statement. “The success of that film led to the founding of Kingdom Story Company, where our mission is to tell stories that ignite a ‘rush of hope,’ and so we are thrilled that we get to return to this world and explore the rest of Bart’s incredible journey in our company’s first sequel. Co-Directors Andrew Erwin and Brent McCorkle, along with Bart Millard, have crafted an emotionally rich, inspiring, and unexpected take that will appeal to both fans of the original and newcomers alike.”

The 2018 movie centered around the life of MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard. During its theatrical run, it received commercial success with a total gross of $86 million at the worldwide box office against a reported budget of $7 million. The cast also included Madeline Carroll, Gianna Simone, Priscilla Shirer, Tanya Clarke, and the late Cloris Leachman.
