Why Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck’s Divorce Has Reportedly Stalled

It’s been almost five months since Jennifer Lopez filed to end her marriage to Ben Affleck, but the former Hollywood power couple’s divorce proceedings have seemingly hit a roadblock.

Despite efforts to amicably finalize their separation, sources close to the matter claim that “nothing has been resolved” yet, and things are starting to get tense behind the scenes.

For this reason, Ben Affleck is reportedly keeping his distance from Jennifer Lopez after spending Thanksgiving with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and their children.

In August, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck at the Los Angeles Superior Court after months of speculation that their marriage had hit the rocks.

She made the filing without a lawyer and listed their official date of separation as April 26.

The divorce looked like it would be easy as Lopez rejected spousal support and asked the judge to deny it for the “Argo” actor.

However, sources have shared that months after she filed to go her separate way, things are getting awry and tense, as no agreement has been reached yet.

“It’s been six months since she filed and nothing has been resolved, it doesn’t seem like they’re anywhere close to finalizing the divorce,” an insider told InTouch Weekly. “They both said they wanted to do it amicably and have even talked a good game about wanting to consciously uncouple, but that plan seems to be out the window because they can’t agree on how to divide things up, which of course is affecting things.”

The issue seemingly stems from the ex-couple’s inability to divide their assets and properties accordingly due to the fact that they didn’t sign a prenup when they got married more than 2 years ago.

It appears that the situation has spiraled into arguments and quarrels, and Affleck would rather keep his distance from the “Atlas” actress than engage her.

A source told InTouch that Lopez is “telling him he should be spending more time with her because the blended family situation is so new, and it’s vital that they all get off to a good start following the divorce, and just establish a pattern, and then he has Jen pushing him to spend time with her and their kids together.”

A previous source claimed that Lopez “thinks Ben ought to just give in to all her demands” and that “it infuriates her that he’s trying to come out of this on top when he’s the one that left her high and dry.”

“She feels like the least he could do is be a gentleman in their divorce,” the insider shared. “But of course, Ben doesn’t see it that way, he thinks he’s been more than fair, and J. Lo is the one purposely dragging this on and nitpicking over little details.”

“It’s no wonder Ben doesn’t want to spend the holidays with her and pretend everything is hunky dory,” they added.

According to the news outlet, things could worsen if Lopez and Affleck cannot quickly find common ground in their divorce proceedings.

The singer is reportedly worth around $400 million, while the Oscar-winning actor’s net worth sits at around $150 million.

However, due to the absence of a prenup, things are more complicated, with insiders saying Affleck can’t help but think Lopez is being “vindictive and greedy.”

“She’s worth more than twice as much as him so it’s especially hard for him not to see this as her being vindictive and greedy,” they said. “They both say they’re desperate to avoid more drama, but the longer this drags on, the worse it’s going to get.”

Amid their divorce battle, the pair has managed to maintain cordial public contact and recently reunited to watch their children in a school play in L.A.

Lopez’s son, Emme, and Affleck’s kid, Fin, performed together in the play. After they took their bows, the “Gone Girl” star could be seen waiting to congratulate the children.

According to the Daily Mail, Affleck also warmly embraced Emme and kissed him on the head before bidding him goodbye.

A source told the news outlet that Lopez “looked on adoringly” as she waited to give Emme a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The exes were also seen talking to each other and interacting with the other attendees.
