James Bond fans might have to keep their martinis on ice a little longer. As we approach 2025, it will mark four years since No Time to Die was released, and there’s still no sign that there been any substantial movement on next Bond adventure.

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the delay in Bond 26 may be tied to a heated feud between EON Productions and Amazon-MGM Studios.

The report, which includes intel from over 20 insiders, executives, business partners, and friends of those involved, paints a picture of escalating tensions between EON’s Barbara Broccoli and Amazon’s team.

Broccoli, who is known for fiercely guarding the legacy of Ian Fleming’s iconic spy franchise, reportedly described Amazon’s approach to the franchise as, “These people are f–king morons.”

While it’s not an official statement, it captures the frustration reportedly simmering between the two sides.

The alleged conflict stems from Amazon’s push to expand the Bond universe quickly, pitching various TV spinoffs and projects after their 2022 merger with MGM.

However, EON Productions, which holds full creative control over the Bond brand, has been strong in preserving the franchise’s quality and exclusivity. This control, wielded by Broccoli and her production partner Michael G. Wilson, has historically ensured Bond films maintain their distinct, cinematic identity.

Amazon’s enthusiasm to milk the 007 brand clashes with EON’s careful stewardship. One source described the merger as exacerbating pre-existing tensions, leading to a creative tug-of-war that has reportedly bogged down development of Bond 26.

Adding to the issues is a key decision that remains unresolved…. who will play the next James Bond? While EON has a history of casting relatively unknown actors to take on the role, Amazon allegedly favors a more commercially bankable star.

Reports and rumors have focused on names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, whose odds as the next Bond have surged in fan betting circles. However, no official announcements have been made.

Amazon-MGM’s global head Jennifer Salke recently hinted that patience is crucial as the two sides navigate this critical juncture. Her comments suggest that Bond’s return is not happening anytime soon. reinforcing the idea that there actually might be something with this Broccoli and Amazon feud.

While we wait to see who will play the next Bond, one thing’s for sure… fans are in for a longer wait than expected.
