Is there anything better than bundling up and dancing under the stars in your most chic snowsuit and mittens? For the minds behind Montréal’s Igloofest, the answer is a resounding “no.”
Winter in Montréal no longer means hibernation thanks to this unique festival, which has been operating since 2007. For diehard electronic music fans, it’s an invitation to zip up your parka and head to the heart of the city’s Old Port for a gleaming rave experience that has made dancing in subzero temperatures a legit winter sport.
Touted as “the world’s iciest festival,” Igloofest is returning from January 16th to February 8th, 2025. And it’s bringing along a lineup of glacial proportions, featuring electronic music stars like Zeds Dead, Michael Bibi, Claptone, Apashe, Tape B, Adriatique and Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello.
The inimitable Four Tet is poised to close the festival after nearly losing his fingers there back in 2019, according to Igloofest’s organizers.
But the real charm of Igloofest isn’t just the big names—it’s the experience. The festival transforms the Old Port into a frozen wonderland, complete with surreal laser shows, massive ice sculptures and beats you can feel in your bones. For families, there’s even an all-ages spin-off called Igloofête, with free-entry Saturday parties featuring music, treats and activities for young ones. Think rave vibes, minus the Red Bull vodka.
This year, the festival is also taking its mission to melt the winter blues beyond Montréal with satellite events in Gatineau (February 13-15) and Quebec City (March 6-8).
