A FedEx contract worker is facing serious charges after allegedly dumping dozens of packages in the woods to avoid working late hour in Bonifay, Florida. Authorities said residents reported packages strewn along roadsides and in wooded areas.

Latavion Lewis was arrested in connection with the incident. According to the New York Post, Lewis confessed to disposing the packages instead of returning them to the FedEx warehouse because he didn’t want to work late. So far, authorities have recovered 44 packqges and making sure they are returned to the right recipients.
Lewis faces charges of grand theft, illegal dumping, and engaging in an organized scheme to defraud. FedEx released a statement regarding the case and said Lewis is no longer affiliated with the company.

“This incident is completely unacceptable as the safe and secure transport of our customers’ shipments is our top priority. We are fully cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”
