
The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, has passed away. The Carter Center confirmed he died in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family.
His son, Chip Carter also confirmed the death in a statement, “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love. My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

A Georgia Democrat, Carter was the longest-living president in U.S. history, reaching the age of 100. He surpassed George H. W. Bush, who passed away in late 2018 at the age of 94.

The cause of death has not been immediately disclosed. The news was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
How Was Jimmy Carter’s Health?
Carter had undergone a series of hospital stays before, his family said on 18 February last year that he had chosen to “spend his remaining time at home”, in hospice care and with loved ones. The decision had “the full support of his family and his medical team”, a family statement said.
The Carters’ eldest grandchild, Jason Carter, had said in a media interview in June this year that the former president was not awake every day but was “experiencing the world as best he can” as his days were coming to an end.
He was diagnosed with melanoma in 2015, announcing that the cancer had spread to other parts of his body. After partial removal of his liver, treatment for brain lesions, radiation and immunotherapy, he said he was cancer-free. A fall in the spring of 2019 required him to get hip replacement surgery.
