During the Sunday, December 29, Buffalo Bills game, quarterback Josh Allen reached an impressive career milestone.
Allen, 28, scored a rushing touchdown during the first half of the team’s Sunday game against the New York Jets. It is the athlete’s 65th career touchdown, which ties the Bills franchise record. Thurman Thomas is the only other Bills player who has hit the same milestone.
After Allen carried the ball into the end zone, devoted Bills fans started a raucous “MVP” chant, per social media footage. Others watching on TV noticed a subtle tribute to Allen’s fiancée, actress Hailee Steinfeld.
“CBS playing a Hailee Steinfeld song going into commercial after a Josh Allen rushing TD,” one fan wrote via X.
Another added, “I like that little nod to Hailee Steinfeld after a Josh Allen TD.”
During the broadcast, an orchestral snippet of one of Steinfeld’s songs was briefly heard before the ad break.
Allen has been dating Steinfeld, 28, since 2023. He proposed last month during the Bills’ bye week.
“I was very nervous. I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal,” Allen told the Hawkeye alum in the December 6 edition of her “Beau Society” newsletter. “It was hard to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you. Then, multiple times throughout the day a song would come on and I would tear up thinking about how special our day was going to be.”
Allen popped the question at sunset while standing underneath a rose-covered archway overlooking a body of water.
“I said, ‘I couldn’t wait any longer.’ I said, ‘I can’t wait to start a family with you,’” Allen recalled. “I said your full name, and I asked you very nicely. I said please.”
Steinfeld, of course, accepted her beau’s proposal.
“You were extremely surprised, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me. And the sun was out,” Allen added at the time. “It feels unbelievable to be engaged to someone who is so special and loving and caring and gorgeous and fun and happy.”
In the newsletter issue, Steinfeld also admitted that she couldn’t stop crying during Allen’s big moment.
“All the happy tears have just barely dried,” Steinfeld wrote in the newsletter introduction. “Whenever we tell the story, look back at photos, or even say, ‘We’re engaged’ or ‘We’re getting married,’ I start crying. … While I can’t wait to tell you more about the day and things we’re planning, I’m not ready quite yet. I have to hold this close for a little while longer.”
