Steph Curry is arguably the greatest shooter the NBA has seen, but his incredible legacy may not have been without Katt Williams’ advice.
The comedian recently claimed he is responsible for Curry’s greatness and revealed the advice he gave him many years ago.
Williams’ comments come after NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal blamed Curry for messing up the NBA, leading to its viewership problems.

Katt Williams Claims He Deserves Credit For Steph Curry’s Shooting Prowess In The NBA
During a recent episode of the “Good One” podcast recorded live at Vulture Festival in November, Williams made a shocking claim about his influence on Curry’s career.
“Anybody that knows me knows that I don’t claim sh*t I do,” Williams began when asked about his past comments about telling Curry to shoot from deep.
He continued, “But, I am responsible for the greatest shooter in the NBA, without question.”

Katt Williams Tells Story Of How He Influenced Steph Curry
Williams told a story about when Curry played in a couple of celebrity basketball games he organized. Before beginning his story, the comedian said, “The jury will decide whether or not I’m being facetious.”
The “American Bad Boy” actor said no one knew Curry then, but he impressed everyone with his shooting skills. Williams observed Curry’s playing style and believed he could do damage in the NBA with his impressive shooting because no one defended from that part of the court.
Hence, he allegedly encouraged the future NBA MVP to start shooting from deep. Williams claimed he told Curry, “If you can shoot before people can start defense, you’ll be the greatest shooter that ever lived.”

Steph Curry’s Impressive Career
It remains unclear if Williams’ story is true, but thanks to his impressive basketball court performances, no one doubts Curry’s greatness. Since being drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2009, he has become one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen.
Curry’s impressive shooting skills changed the game, making it hard for teams to defend. His influence runs deep, as high school and college basketballers now practice shooting threes. Many NBA teams also prioritize having good shooters to help them win games.
The Golden State Warriors star has also won multiple honors in his career. He has helped his team to four NBA championships, been named the NBA MVP twice, and has one NBA Finals MVP.

Curry has also broken some NBA records. On December 14, 2021, he broke Ray Allen’s NBA record for most 3-pointers during the regular season. He is also the first player to make 3,000 career 3-pointers and has the most consecutive games making a 3-pointer after he made a 3-pointer in 158 straight games.
Shaquille O’Neal Believes Curry Ruined The Game
Despite Curry’s greatness at shooting, not everyone is pleased with how it has affected the game. During an episode of his podcast in November, former Los Angeles Lakers player Shaquille O’Neal expressed his feelings about Curry’s influence on the game amid the NBA’s dwindling viewership.
O’Neal said per Sportskeeda, “It’s down because we’re looking at the same thing. Everybody is running the same plays. Steph Curry and those guys messed it up.”
He added, “I don’t mind Golden State back in the day shooting threes, but every team isn’t a 3-point shooter. So, why everybody has the same strategy? I think it makes the game boring.”

O’Neal Says Everyone Can’t Be Curry
The “Big Shaq” admitted that Curry isn’t the problem but blamed it on many people wanting to imitate his playing style.
He said, “The game has already been perfect ever since Naismith created it. This new era of humans f*cked it up. Golden State came in and changed it. Everybody wants to be Steph Curry, but everybody’s not Steph Curry.”
O’Neal concluded, “And that’s why viewership is down. But these dudes, they need to wake up because if viewership is down, the money is gonna come down.”
Curry continues to impress for the Golden State Warriors, but his team is on a three-game losing streak and needs to improve significantly to qualify for the playoffs.
