Signs Of HOPE Encourages Everyone To Make The ‘Party Smart Pledge’
While there’s never a shortage of people visiting Las Vegas, New Year’s Eve promises to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors to celebrate in style.
Signs of HOPE, a nonprofit dedicated to offering hope, help, and healing to those affected by sexual violence and exploitation, is encouraging everyone to make the “Party Smart Pledge” to arrive together, stick together, and leave together this New Year’s Eve.
Kim Small, CEO of Signs of HOPE, has tips to share to help keep the party going in a safe way while visiting the city for the holiday. A few things she suggests include making a plan before going out, let someone who’s not with you know where you will be, and engage help if it’s needed.

“Signs of Hope has been serving Southern Nevada for 50 years now. We offer hope, help, and healing to those affected by sexual violence and exploitation, specifically human trafficking. What that looks like is providing two 24-7 hotlines, one for sexual assault and one for human trafficking, and they’re staffed by our expertly trained advocates as well as our volunteer advocates. We offer counseling, prevention, and education and outreach to the community to educate them on the sexual violence, and we work in schools to educate students as well as teachers,” Small told The Blast.

“So the Party Smart Pledge is to arrive together, to stick together, and leave together. We want to ensure that everyone arrives home safely and helps prevent sexual violence from occurring. And so we ask that people stay with their friend group. I always call it the buddy system, making sure that everyone is aware of your party, your friend group’s location. And even if there’s a trusted individual that’s not attending a party with you, letting them know where you’re at all times.”
The Party Smart Campaign Includes A Training Program, Stay SAFE
In addition to sharing tips for partygoers to stay safe, the Party Smart Campaign also includes a training program called Stay SAFE for bar, nightclub, and hospitality staff in Las Vegas. This free training is a joint venture between Signs of HOPE and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
“The Stay SAFE program is taught in conjunction with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and it is for venue providers and helping them understand how they can play a part in keeping party goers safe and what to look for and how to intervene safely if possible,” she explained.

“We don’t ever want to put someone in a position in which there could be harm. So we want to make sure that if they do see something that they work with hotel or nightclub security to intervene and provide safety for that individual.”
