New details have emerged about Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man who claimed 10 lives and injured 30 others in New Orleans. His second ex-wife filed a restraining order during their divorce due to a “conflict of personalities” in 2020.

The restraining order also barred Jabbar from removing their child from school or any geographical area specified by the court, although the petition details remain unknown. The court order prohibited threats, bodily harm, and any other behavior against his former spouse and children. According to TMZ, this was not the only marriage Jabbar was in since he was previously divorced in 2016, where his other ex-wife cited abusive behavior but didn’t disclose any further information.
Hours before Wednesday’s attack, Jabbar recorded several videos in which he initially threatened to kill his family by inviting them to a gathering. However, he changed his mind, stating that he wanted the news headlines to focus on the “war between the believers and the disbelievers,” according to Christopher Raia, the deputy assistant director of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division. CNN also reported that the videos were posted on his Facebook page between 1:29 a.m. and 3:02 a.m.

The New Orleans attack occurred around 3:15 a.m. Jabbar was killed while firing at the police. Investigators found that he had an ISIS flag in the truck he drove.
