President-elect Donald Trump is upset and complaining about the flags flying at half-staff to honor the late 39th President Jimmy Carter during his inauguration on January 20 in Washington, D.C. He fumed about the flags flying at half-mast “for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President.”

As we previously shared, on December 29, former President Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States who dedicated his life after leaving office to brokering international peace, passed away at 100 in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. He was the was the longest living U.S. president.
Carter, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his human rights work around the world, had been receiving hospice care since February 2023 at his home in Plains, GA, where he lived with his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, who passed at 96 on November 19, 2023.

On Friday (January 3), Donald Trump took to his account on Truth Social and complained about the flags flying at half-staff during his inauguration to honor the late 39th President Jimmy Carter. When flags fly at half-staff (half-mast or lowered), it is to honor a late political figure or commemorate an occasion. The tribute is a tradition that transcends political ideology. Traditionally, the flags are lowered for 30 days to mourn the death of a current or former U.S. president.
It’s reported that under President Joe Biden‘s proclamation, flags will be at half-staff until a week after Donald Trump’s January 20 inauguration. Additionally, since the flags were ordered to be lowered by a sitting president, Joe Biden, the President-elect, Donald Trump, cannot order any changes until after being sworn into office, at his inauguration.

Donald Trump said, “The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half-mast’ during my Inauguration. They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years – It’s a total mess!”
Trump added, “In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half-mast. Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
