Jonathan Bailey is teasing a “heavier and more complicated” world in Wicked: For Good.
Bailey played Fiyero Tigelaar in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked, which was released in United States theaters in November 2024. He’ll soon reprise the role again in the forthcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, which is set to hit theaters this coming fall.
Speaking with Indiewire, Bailey briefly teased what fans of the first movie can expect from Wicked: For Good.
What did Jonathan Bailey say about Wicked: For Good?
“I think we understand the world and how it works 1736360529,” Bailey said. “I’m really excited for the tonal shift. The world gets heavier and more complicated and there’s just that pumping sense of hope and joy and resilience and all the things that we love about Elphaba’s journey that I can’t wait for.”
Bailey also teased some of Wicked: For Good’s musical numbers; specifically, he mentioned “As Long As You’re Mine” being one he’s really eager for fans to see.
“‘As Long as You’re Mine,’ I was listening to that on [my] bike on the way to meet Jon Chu back, you know, however many years ago, and that’s always been one of my favorite songs,” Bailey said “So I’m really excited for that as well. It’s amazing.”
Reflecting on seeing the Wicked stage musical for the first time when he was younger, Bailey commented, “Going to see Wicked with friends and family and my Nana the day after it came out here, it’s just really struck me that it is all about local community projects. There are so many moments in your life where you can be inspired by art and passions can be awakened, but the biggest travesty is to allow them to remain dormant when you know they’re there. And so I’m always grateful for Fiyero and ‘Wicked’ because it really has brought my dancing back in [to my life], which is amazing.”
Wicked is now available to rent or own on digital streaming services such as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and more. Wicked: For Good hits theaters on November 21, 2025.
