Bad Bunny‘s new song DTMF, aka Debi Tirar Mas Fotos, from his latest studio album of the same name, has reached new heights of popularity by going viral on TikTok. It subsequently kickstarted a trend named after it. This has naturally intrigued netizens who wish to learn more about this trend. Moreover, they are also curious about what Bad Bunny himself had to say about it.

Here is the DTMF trend explored.

Here’s why the DTMF TikTok trend made Bad Bunny cry

The DTMF TikTok trend made Bad Bunny cry, as he was grateful for the love and positive reception the song received.

Bad Bunny shared a video in which he did not say anything. However, he was shown to be emotional and having tears of joy. This video has accumulated 15.6 million likes as of this writing. The 30-year-old rapper later shared another video where he appeared composed while singing the song.

The DTMF song and the album, consisting of 16 other tracks, pay a nostalgic tribute to Bad Bunny’s native Puerto Rico. The following lyrics caught the attention of netizens, who then went on to popularize it via the trend.

“I should’ve taken more pictures when I had youI should’ve given you more kisses and hugs whenever I couldAyy, I hope my people never move awayAnd if I get drunk today, I hope they help me out”

Inspired and touched by the nostalgic and emotional tone of the lyrics, TikTokers used it to share their own nostalgic feelings by posting old photos or videos of their loved ones. Here is a user who conveyed her emotional, nostalgic feelings regarding her mother, brother, uncle, and grandmother through the song’s lyrics and her old photos.

Meanwhile, other users simply chose to share their emotional reactions to the song after translating it and learning its meaning.

It’s not just fans who have popularized the trend, but celebrities have also. Gabriel Guevara, known for his work in the film My Fault, shared a video encapsulating his best moments in 2024. Here, he also thanked people for making it a great year. This video was accompanied by the DTMF lyrics playing in the background.
