Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premiered on Disney+ with two episodes, but its viewership numbers are lower than expected.

According to Nielsen’s streaming data, the show recorded the lowest first-week viewership of any Star Wars TV series on the platform, pulling in less than 382 million minutes watched.

For comparison, The Acolyte managed 488 million minutes with its two-episode debut, and The Mandalorian season 3 reached a hefty 823 million minutes in its premiere week.

Skeletal Crew’s post-Return of the Jedi setting and focus on a group of kids navigating the galaxy after being lost with pirates received positive reviews from fans and critics. Still, that reception didn’t translate into strong streaming number.

The series’ debut performance pales when measured against other Star Wars entries. Obi-Wan Kenobi reached 1.026 billion minutes, and even Andor’s three-episode start earned 624 million minutes.

With The Book of Boba Fett recording 389 million minutes for its single-episode premiere, Skeleton Crew falls in a similar range despite having twice the content.

Jon Watts, who helmed Skeleton Crew, previously discussed plans for a potential second season, saying: “We 100% have an idea for a second season and know what we would do. […] You’ll be growing up with the kids.”

The approach would involve a time jump of three to four years to reflect the actors’ real-life aging. Still, if the viewership numbers haven’t dramatically increased since its debut, the prospect of a continuation remains uncertain.

The finale of Skeleton Crew recently was released, and as of now, we can only speculate whether the series has found stronger footing or if it will remain a one-season experiment.

If The Acolyte didn’t have the viewership numbers to justified the cost of keeping the show going, then Skeleton Crew could suffer the same fate.
