According to Quartz, the 2024 study by Greenhouse revealed that many industries are prone to ghost jobs. Construction was at the top of the list at 34%, while the arts landed second at 31% and legal jobs at third with 29%. The study also revealed that some businesses rely on ghost posting to project growth despite not actively expanding and keeping their options open for prospective candidates.
A different study revealed that some hiring managers confessed that their companies had listed fake job postings, ranging from as little to one to three postings to 75 or more. Others also admitted that ghost postings are a scare tactic to make current employees feel replaceable and increase productivity.
