Lil’ Kim caught some heat yesterday after dropping a good-intentioned social media post about the raging wildfires in Los Angeles.
On Tuesday (Jan. 14), the Hip-Hop legend hit up Instagram and X to share her thoughts and show love for those impacted by the crisis. “#PrayForLA,” she began in an IG Story with a prayer emoji and breaking heart. “Been sending strong prayers up for LA and everyone affected by the fires. This is heartbreaking. I pray to Jesus that God make it monsoon in LA.” While her intentions were genuinely heartfelt, her call for a monsoon had people raising eyebrows, given that monsoons bring strong winds and heavy rain—causing fans to say that’s the opposite of what the area needs right now.

In response to the criticism on Thursday, Lil Kim shared a follow up post saying, “What’s happening is devastating and what LA really needs right now is rain—so what’s the issue? Doesn’t everyone understand that a monsoon is heavy rain? I’m so happy to see that everyone is staying so positive during such a tragic situation. Let’s keep praying and supporting everyone that has been affected by this.”

CNN reports that wildfires have put 6 million residents at risk and issued a dust and ash advisory for 17 million people across California. Sadly, the blazes have already taken 25 lives and wiped out around 12,000 structures.
While many folks appreciated Kim’s prayers for the situation, others found humor in her response, and some highlighted the potential downsides of her proposed solution.
