Cynthia Bailey is opening up about her weight loss journey and shedding light on her experiences with various methods, including Ozempic. The 57-year-old reality star recently shared her thoughts on the popular weight loss drug in an interview with E! News, revealing that despite seeing friends achieve great results, Ozempic just wasn’t the right fit for her.
“I did want to take the shot initially because all my friends look great on the shot without question,” Cynthia Bailey admitted. However, after just a month on the medication, she realized it wasn’t working for her. “Honestly, for me, it didn’t work because I still like food, and I found I just had no interest in food,” she explained. “Food is like something that I enjoy, and I just didn’t like the way it made me feel.”
Ozempic, while touted for its weight loss benefits, has been linked to side effects that impact both physical and mental health. Bailey’s experience highlights how the drug caused her to lose her appetite for some of her favorite dishes like BBQ ribs and crab cakes. “When I get my crab cake and my salad and my oysters and my BBQ ribs, I want to enjoy it. I was just literally looking at the food like, ‘What is this? What am I supposed to do with this?’” she recalled.
For Cynthia Bailey, the loss of interest in food was a dealbreaker. “For me, it didn’t work,” she said candidly. “I didn’t enjoy it.”
Gaining Weight and Finding a New Path
The star also shared that, over the past year, she gained weight for a number of reasons, including the stress of filming Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16, indulging in comfort foods, and a new relationship. “I gained a lot of happy weight,” Bailey confessed. “I’ve been in a relationship for the past 10 months now, and I started not to be able to fit in my clothes anymore.”
At this stage in her life, Cynthia Bailey’s goal isn’t to lose a drastic amount of weight but to simply fit back into her clothes. “I’m not trying to be skinny. I just want to get back into my clothes,” she explained.
A Fresh Start with WeightWatchers
After deciding Ozempic wasn’t for her, Bailey turned to a more sustainable and flexible approach to weight loss with WeightWatchers. The points-based program has gained popularity, and the reality star has already seen promising results. In a recent Instagram video, she proudly shared her progress: “So it’s been two weeks since I announced that I’m starting my weight loss journey with WeightWatchers. Since joining, I’ve started noticing many changes, not just on the scale but in how my clothes fit.”
Cynthia Bailey’s first major milestone was being able to zip up a pair of jeans she hadn’t worn in a while. “I just felt like such a win,” she said, emphasizing that the program is both flexible and livable. The Points System has allowed her to enjoy her favorite foods in moderation without feeling deprived.
Another key part of her success has been getting back into a workout routine, something she credits as vital to her progress. Additionally, the personalized support from her WeightWatchers Registered Dietitian has been invaluable. “She’s given me so many helpful tips to make the program work from my busy lifestyle, like ways to incorporate ZeroPoints foods into my day,” Bailey shared. “Having that one-on-one guidance has been a game changer.”
Though she hasn’t fully reached her goal yet, Bailey is optimistic. “I still can’t fit into some of my clothes YET, but I know I’m headed in the right direction,” she said.
