Southern Charm is in its 10th season, and the cast has a lot going on. Naturally, much of the show’s off-camera drama centers around Jarrett “JT” Thomas deciding to quit before filming ended. Now, Venita Aspen is opening up about their relationship, his ghosting of her, how she’ll react when they run into one another, and finding her groove with the cast.
Fans of Southern Charm will recall that Venita joined the show during its seventh season as a friend of. However, she had actually been a part of the group for quite a while before becoming an official cast member, so her joining actually made sense.
Recently, Venita sat down for an interview with the Access Hollywood Housewives Nightcap show. She discussed quite a bit, and the conversation began with her time on the show. One of the interviewers first confirmed that it was the fourth season she’d been on.
Venita responded, “Yeah, bro, this is crazy. This is my fourth year. I’m so happy to be able to say this, but I feel like I’ve finally really found my grounding with this group this year. It took me a minute to get there because I was trying to play it safe and be careful and not do too much, not piss anyone off, but, like, I really feel like I’ve found my little groove. I’m happy.”
Venita then discussed how she realized she had previously gone into the show in a much more guarded state and that she decided that it was time to “let it all go” and show more of her personality this season.
Naturally, the topic of JT came up. She said, “I was also excited to come in with my best friend, JT, so that was fun. We became thick as thieves over the summer, and then everything crashed down in front of me.”
This steered the conversation into his “abrupt departure” from the show. The interviewers asked Venita if she was in touch with him, and she said that “she was not.” The Southern Charm star added, “I haven’t spoken to JT since the trailer aired, so eight weeks ago.”
They also brought up the trailer, which showed the beginnings of a more romantic relationship between Venita and JT. When asked what happened, she said, “I don’t know. I guess we gotta get him on a podcast or something to get him to talk because I have no idea.”
She went on, “It was very jarring, and I think that I’m still kind of digesting it. It was like one day I was supposed to be going to lunch with his mom and him and to hang out. Then the trailer drops, and he starts acting crazy and falls off the face of the earth. I think he was nervous to see how he was going to be portrayed this year, and I think the anxiety got the best of him. I don’t really know.”
The question of if they were dating at the time the trailer dropped came up, and she responded, “Yeah.” From there, they asked if he “ghosted” her. She said, “No, he popped up with a girlfriend on Instagram.”
Regarding where she stands with him today, she said, “I want to hear what he has to say. I don’t want to dig too hard in on him, but I know the moment will come when I’ll just be able to lash out at him, but I can’t do it yet.”
She went on to reveal that the Southern Charm group is waiting to see if JT actually shows up to the reunion this year given that he has departed the show. The interviewers also asked if this is the reason Madison LeCroy is “so fired up about him.” She explained, “No, JT pissed Madison off on his own, and I think what didn’t help was that I am the only person that really stands beside JT, and that put me in a position of messing up friendships that I had been working on building for years.”
They also asked if Venita believes JT “played” her. She said, “I think he thinks he played me. That’s the funny part because I haven’t had my turn yet. You wait until you’re back in front of me, and I get to say my piece to you. You actually got played here, not me.”
