Just as TikTok was banned and restored its services in the United States, thanks to the actions of President Donald Trump, its rival app Instagram introduced a new editing app for users and content creators. They also offered some details about the application and its features. Accordingly, netizens are wondering about this new editing application and wish to know everything about it.

Here is what Instagram has shared about their new editing app.

Instagram shares details on editing app amid TikTok ban

Instagram head Adam Mosseri took to both the social media site and its sibling application Threads to announce Edits in the wake of TikTok’s ban and subsequent restoration. Edits are aimed at content creators who make short-form videos on their phones.

“Edits is more than a video editing app; it’s a full suite of creative tools,” Mosseri said in his post. He then mentioned the following features that would make up the application and everything it had to offer:

A dedicated tab that would give inspiration to users for content.

Trending audios users can use on their videos.

A tab that would allow users to keep track of their ideas, including rough drafts.

A new high-quality camera.

All of the tools are typically found in video-editing apps.

Ability to share drafts with friends and fellow content creators

Powerful insights are offered to users who decide to share videos they made on Edits as reels on Instagram.

Mosseri also mentioned details about the app’s release. He said that Edits was now available for pre-ordering on the Apple App Store and that an Android version in development was coming soon.

Although Mosseri mentioned February as the launch month for Edits, the official App Store page reveals a March 13, 2025 release date.

The Instagram head added that he had been working with content creators on the application’s development for months and planned on working with more content creators in the coming weeks for feedback. Moreover, he also warned users not to expect a polished app on release day. “The first version is going to be incomplete, so please be patient,” he said. “But I’m really excited to put this in all your hands.”

Mosseri also likened Edits to CapCut, which had also been banned, but stressed that it was aimed toward content creators more than “casual video makers.”
