Marvel Studios is officially bringing Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher back for a Special Presentation, adding another chapter to his violent, vengeance-fueled journey in the MCU.
Bernthal first made his mark as the iconic antihero in Daredevil on Netflix before leading his own two-season series, The Punisher. Now, he’s set to return in Daredevil: Born Again, but that won’t be the last time we see him.
Speaking with ComicBook, Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum confirmed the project, saying:
“That’s a character that’s very personal to Jon. He made that character an icon. He is, you know — I think I can say he’s working on a Special Presentation with us right now about that character.
“That character is driven by a lot of pain and a need to kind of get vengeance and justice, but it’s always interesting where his philosophy lands on how he deals out that justice. To me, that’s the most interesting part of Punisher, how he justifies the violence he inflicts.”
So far, Marvel Studios has released two Special Presentations including Werewolf by Night (October 2022) and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (November 2022). Both delivered standalone, self-contained stories, making this format a perfect fit for Castle’s next violent and blood-soaked mission.
Plot details for the Punisher special are still under wraps, but fans will be able to see Bernthal back in action when Daredevil: Born Again premieres on March 4, 2025.
The series also stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.
I’m excited that we’ll get to see Frank Castle is coming back, and you can bet he’s bringing hell with him.
