Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of William Nye Drive after reports of gunfire and a woman being dragged into a residence. Smith said, “When officers arrived, they knocked on the door and a male opened the door and immediately shut the door on the officers.”

Atlanta Police Department Shuts Down Claims Young Scooter Died In Officer-Involved Shooting
As police set up a perimeter around the home, two men fled from the back of the residence. One of them returned to the house. The other man jumped two fences before being found injured nearby. Smith said, “He appeared to have suffered an injury to his leg. Officers rendered aid and he was transported to Grady Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”
Smith also addressed claims on social media suggesting it was a police-involved shooting. He said, “The Atlanta Police Department has not been involved in any shootings tonight and the incident on William Nye—no one was—there was not a shooting at all.” Smith further highlighted that the man’s wound was not a direct result from any police officer. He said, “Just to be very clear, the injury that was sustained was not via the officers on scene.”
At the time of publishing the APD’s initial reports, they have not confirmed the identity of the 39-year-old man. However, family, friends, and more have shared their condolences online for Young Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey. Meanwhile, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are working the case.
