Key Glock has been serving trench-certified lifestyle rap for nearly 10 years. Over the last two years, following the 2023 release of his Glockoma 2 album, the 27-year-old Memphis rapper has been making new music and major moves. His elevation and ambition will be showcased on his forthcoming fourth solo LP, Glockaveli, out May 2. He’s also got a new label home after P.R.E., the label founded by the late Young Dolph, partnered with Republic Records this year. Armed with knocking new tracks “3AM in ToKEYo” and “No Sweat,” Glock is ready to hit the road on the Glockaveli tour in late May.
To celebrate his upcoming album, the multiplatinum artist let go of his serious side to keep it real about what he’d say if he was in the room with certain well-known figures for XXL’s No Filter series. Tupac Shukar had to be part of the conversation, of course. ’Pac inspired the title of Key Glock’s new album. The late West Coast rapper’s 1996 LP, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, was commonly referred to as Makaveli, which was the alternate rap name the project was released under.
If Glock had a chance to be face-to-face with ’Pac, he’d like to tap into his genius.
“Bro, I don’t even even ask men for their phone number,” Key Glock said as if speaking directly to Tupac. “I need your phone number. I need to talk to you about a couple things. Get your idea about, you know, a couple things ’Pac just a inspiration to me, overall, just music, lifestyle. I just f**k with ’Pac and everything he represent. And that’s how Glockaveli came about. It came from Makaveli. It was one of my favorite tapes from him. So, I just decided to put my own spin on it and put the Glock in front of it and then again it means so much to me.”
Surprisingly outside of rap, someone Glock wants to talk business with is Kim Kardashian. A successful beauty and fashion mogul, the Down South MC is trying to show Kim his best side. He wants to model for her Skims brand.
“I’ll tell her I need to be her main male model for Skims,” Glock shares with a laugh. “Skim me down. The reason I tell her that is because I’m a sex symbol. Everybody love me, I love everybody. That’s just how it is.”
