Prom season has turned into an absolute nightmare for a plethora of high school seniors. After dishing out stacks of cash for custom gowns, some received dresses that didn’t fit, didn’t arrive on time, or didn’t arrive at all. Now, Janyai Walker, the designer behind the gowns, is speaking out.
Was it all a misunderstanding? Or is something deeper at play?
Well, The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is getting to the bottom of it all on ‘TSR Investigates.’
More On The Alleged Designer Delays With The High School Seniors’ Prom Gowns
According to Carter, the twenty-eight-year-old model and dress designer is the source behind the high school seniors’ frustrations. Elisa Price reached out to Walker in February to request a gown with an estimated ship date of March 15.
“We didn’t pay a deposit. We paid it all in full… sent the whole $650 that day,” Price told Carter.
Per Price, Walker allegedly promised to take her measurements for the dress. However, when they decided on a date for the in-person measurements, Price says, they ended up rescheduling multiple times. Ultimately, Price allegedly ended up having to take her own measurements for the gown.
“I asked for a picture more than four times,” Price recalled. “[But] it was an excuse every time.”
According to Carter, Price’s scheduled delivery date for the dress “came and went.” Additionally, as the senior’s window for the upcoming prom began to close, she says, Walker began getting “smart” for her, seemingly becoming bothered about being hassled.
The Designer Speaks Out
According to Price, her prom dress wasn’t shipped out by Walker until her mother called the designer out on Facebook. To make matters worse, when Price tried the piece on, she says, it was ill-fitting. Now, Price has decided she won’t be attending her prom.
But Elisa Price wasn’t the only one to share a disappointing experience. Scroll above to watch as Carter speaks with another high school senior about the dress she allegedly received from Janyai Walker. Furthermore, Carter speaks with the designer herself about the allegations from the high school seniors, her public reaction, and how she feels about ruining the prom experience for some seniors.
