Ally Lewber recalled her “weird” phone call with Lisa Vanderpump after James Kennedy’s arrest, where Lisa allegedly told her, “you were drinking too,” and suggested she and James get back together. The Vanderpump Rules alum also hinted at whether she now believes Rachel Leviss and Kristen Doute’s abuse allegations.
Back in December, James was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence involving an argument with Ally, his then-girlfriend. Ally soon broke up with him and moved out, though she stated she wasn’t physically hurt. Long before the arrest, James’ exes, Rachel and Kristen, had alluded to abuse claims.
“[Lisa] called me,” recalled Ally on the Viall Files podcast, via @breakingtherulespodclips on Instagram, “to make sure like, ‘Are you okay?’ I mean, this was like two months [after the arrest].”
“She’s very protective of her James,” Ally went on. “And I get it, because I was too for a long time … And think that they, like she feels protective, like a mother almost to him. And I thought that was really weird at first when I first got on the show.”
Though Ally said she “kind of” understood their dynamic later on, she claimed that in the recent phone call, Lisa “was basically like, ‘Ally, like he needs you … You’re really good together.’”
Ally indicated that Lisa was trying to convince her to stay with him.
“She was like, ‘You should go travel with him to his shows this weekend,’” said Ally. “I’m like, ‘First of all, what shows? He’s canceled right now. And also — no. I just moved into an apartment … We’re not together.’ But it was really weird because on the call I was kind of like … weak in the moment, you know? And I’m like, ‘Did I make the wrong [decision]?’ … Like questioning everything.”
According to Ally, she doesn’t know if James asked Lisa to call her, but Lisa told her in the phone call, “‘Well, you were drinking too.’”
At one point in the podcast, Ally was asked if she now believes Kristen and Rachel’s abuse claims.
“It’s so hard because James [was] in my ear,” she answered. “Mutually, that was just a very toxic relationship on both parties, so I don’t really want to say anything … But, like, I always believe women, and I do feel kinda guilty … Sometimes it is like, ‘Oh, they were right.’”
She claimed that “at the end of the day,” James is a “great person,” but he’s “wounded,” and she “tried to fix that.”
