Two years ago, HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us video game proved to be just as potent on television as it was in the original video game.
The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal headlined the series as Joel, a smuggler in a post-apocalyptic world who accepted a job to escort a teenage girl named Ellie (Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey) across the country in the hope that her immunity to the Cordyceps infection could lead to a cure for the virus that turns humans into zombie-like creatures.
Along the way, Joel and Ellie formed a father-daughter bond, and they both killed other people who threatened their lives.

Joel completed his mission and brought Ellie to a group of scientists called the Fireflies. But Joel went off script when he learned that in order to discover why Ellie was immune, the Fireflies planned to euthanize her and remove her brain.
Since Joel had come to love Ellie like a daughter, he slaughtered all of the Fireflies who were present and took Ellie away before she woke up from anesthesia and fled by car. When Ellie awakened, Joel lied and said that the Fireflies couldn’t produce a cure and that they perished in an attack by raiders. Ellie seemed suspicious of Joel’s account, but accepted it.

Who’s Joining the Cast This Season?
The most significant new addition is Abby, as played by Kaitlyn Dever. Beyond Joel and Ellie, Abby is the most important character in the current narrative. To say why she’s important would be too big a spoiler.
Isabela Merced has also joined the cast as Dina, a young woman whom Ellie is very attracted to. Dina’s ex, Jesse (Young Mazino), will also have a part to play in the story. Catherine O’Hara is playing Gail, who serves as Joel’s therapist in Jackson. While Gail’s husband, Eugene, was only briefly seen in the game, Joe Pantoliano will play that character on the show.
The Batman’s Jeffrey Wright is the only actor from The Last of Us Part II who will portray the same character on the show that he did in the game. Wright’s character is militia leader Isaac Dixon. From Season 1, Gabriel Luna is reprising his role as Joel’s younger brother, Tommy.
