Democratic Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen is addressing the “margaritas” photo with mistakenly deported Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia and also tells President Donald Trump to “put up or shut up” after his administration slammed their meeting in El Salvador. Meanwhile, Abrego Garcia’s wife dodges questions about filing a temporary protection order against her husband and children’s father in 2021.

As we previously shared, the Trump administration admitted to mistakenly deporting Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia on March 15, three days after he was arrested in front of his 5-year-old son in an IKEA parking lot. After he illegally entered the U.S. around 2011, fleeing gang violence in El Salvador, an immigration judge ordered his protection against deportation in 2019.
Despite this, Trump’s ICE agents deported him to a notoriously violent mega-prison in El Salvador and have refused to bring him back — even after the Supreme Court upheld a federal judge in Maryland’s order to bring him home.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele And Donald Trump Both Refuse To Return Kilmar Abrego Garcia
On April 14, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele met with Trump and his administration at the White House and defended their refusal to bring home Abrego Garcia, calling him a terrorist and MS-13 gang member.
On April 17, Senator Chris Van Hollen revealed that he secured a meeting with Abrego Garcia in El Salvador and would continue to advocate for his return to the United States.

Following Van Hollen’s meeting, Trump and the White House slammed the meeting, making jokes, and sharing memes online. Van Hollen returned fire, telling Trump, “It’s time for [him] to put up or shut in Court.”
Van Hollen has also fired back against photos of “margaritas” sitting at the table during his and Abrego Garcia’s meeting. He said El Salvador’s government officials attempted to frame them with the drinks, but neither of them drank from the cups.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s Wife Dodges Question About Filing Protection Order Against Him In 2021
Elsewhere, criticism continues over reports of Abrego Garcia allegedly assaulting his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura. Documents are circulating showing her reportedly filing a protection order in May 2021, accusing him of punching her, blacking her eye, and more.
When asked about the reports on ‘Good Morning America,’ she dodged the question and simply said, “My husband is alive. That’s all I can say.”
