Controversy follows rapper Azealia Banks wherever she goes, but this time she says she wishes she’d done things differently. The 33-year-old Harlem, N.Y. native admits that she voted for President Donald Trump, but even she admits it’s a vote gone wrong.

“Ok I think it’s time everyone who voted for Trump admit that we made a f-cking mess,” Banks tweeted recently. “Like this is an absolute disaster.”

Like many other Trump voters, Banks says that the country’s current direction is not what she envisioned when she cast her vote for the 47th president. But it’s not the first time Banks has gone on the record with her public support of Trump. In 2016, she said she was voting for him even though she didn’t necessarily think he was the best candidate. Back then she said, despite her vote, that Trump was a “piece of sh-t,” along with other politicians who make false promises to the Black community.

“Just because Hilary Clinton (sic) and Bernie Sanders say nice things about minorities doesn’t mean they actually mean them. Politicians have been saying “nice” things about colored folks and we’ve still been getting f-cked. I only trust this country to be what it is: full of sh-t. takes sh-t to know sh-t so we may as well, put a piece of sh-t in the White House.”

It appears even Banks didn’t realize just how much damage the man she voted for —twice— could do in such a short time.

In the first 90 days of Trump’s second presidency, he’s fired thousands of federal workers, some of whom remain in limbo as they’ve sued to keep their jobs. Government agencies, from Social Security to the IRS to the CDC, which provide essential services, have been gutted.

Trump’s advisor’ Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, has used his DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) to gain access to previously secure PII (Personally Identifiable Information) to gain access to information about millions of Americans and a hard line on immigration has led to mass deportations and legal residents of the U.S. picked up off the streets and deported. Oh, and the head of the Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, communicated the details of an attack on Yemen via a group chat on the encrypted app Signal that included the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. And then, reportedly, sent another group text using the same app with details of the raid that included his wife and brother.

“He’s so petty and vindictive rn,” Banks added in a follow-up post about Trump. “Tbh, rightfully so, but not when the wellbeing and livelihood of billions of people – damn near the entire world lay in ur hands. Someone needs to get him a cute little lorazepam rx and a high grade ashwaganda supplement because it can’t happen like this. Nobody on earth is afraid of crazy old white man anger. Old white men need to reinvent the archetype because it’s too predictable. Like China is just DUNKING on everyone right now.”

After checking a few salty MAGAs, Banks moved on to other topics, including Lady Gaga’s racist fanbase, the Kendrick/Drake beef, living in Sweden (due to American racism and gun violence) the struggles of being an independent artist, why she won’t make a record witih Nicki Minaj, and that the popularity of The 1975 is more about frontman Matt Healy (who she’s had a beef with) and his dating life than any music they’ve made.

Despite the challenges of being an indie artist, Banks announced earlier this year that new music is on the horizon. She’ll be performing this summer on the Maiden Voyage Music Festival in London along with other genre-fluid artists.

See how social media is reacting to her admission below.
