Polls are a reflection of an already deeply devolved media environment rife with propaganda, and the more you let them dictate what is acceptable for Democratic leaders to say, the further into authoritarianism we slide. If there is any hopeful future to be had, it involves defending basic American values with conviction as Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen did with his trip to El Salvador — not surrendering to the nonsense world being foisted on us.
